Follicular Unit Extraction: Learn What It Is

Men and women alike suffer from hair loss and follicular unit extraction is a way to deal with it. Years ago, there were hair plugs and all sorts of other ways to replenish the hair on your head. The problem with all of these is that they didn’t involve using your own hair – and sometimes it wasn’t really hair at all. There is now a better surgical option for you to consider.

This is a method where hair follicles are taken from somewhere else and then surgically attached to your scalp. When this happens, you have follicles on your head that are capable of sprouting hair. When you grow hair using this method, it is attached. You grow it, cut it and shampoo it. All of the benefits that you have with real hair are available to you. It is your own hair.

When you explore follicular unit extraction, you need to know what to look for. This includes finding out who is going to do it, what their credentials are, and what it’s going to cost you.

Look online or in the Yellow Pages for hair restoration clinics. Make a list of about three or four clinics and contact each of them. You will want to ask about whether they offer follicular unit extraction and if you can come in for a free consultation.

You will want to take the clinics up on a consultation to be able to ask all the questions you have. In addition to costs, you want to find out what the recovery time is and whether this is the best form of medical hair restoration available to you. Depending upon why you have hair loss or thinning hair, there may be other alternatives for you to explore – and you want to know about all of them before you make a final decision.

Talk to your doctor to find out whether they think follicular unit extraction is recommended for you or not. You may be able to benefit from this method, but you have to have follicular units somewhere on your body that can be extracted, otherwise the system does not work.

You can significantly enhance your physical appearance and promote a higher level of self-confidence when you are able to naturally grow hair on your head. If you are tired of looking at photos of people who have hairstyles that you would die for, there are things that can be done. You can’t sit back and do nothing. The hair won’t grow unless you give it the necessary nudge in the right direction.
