PROFESSSIONAL AFFILIATIONS

International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery

The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) is a non-profit voluntary organization of over 800 hair transplant doctors. It was founded in 1993 as the first International society to promote Continuing Quality Improvement and education for professionals in the field of medical hair restoration surgery.. ISHRS is the organization that represents hair transplant surgeons in the American Medical Association through its seat in the AMA House of Delegates.

Their Mission:

The ISHRS mission is to advance the art and science of hair restoration by licensed, experienced physicians who are qualified to practice this type of medicine and who do so with the highest degree of skill and artistry. We encourage the free interchange of ideas, knowledge and experience among members who aim to maintain their skills and artistry to the highest possible level. The ISHRS encourages professional excellence and promotes amicable relations among members.

American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery

The question has been raised whether the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS) is a real medical specialty board because it is not a American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) recognized board. In reality, only about 28 or 39 medical specialty boards are recognized by the ABMS, and there are over 200 medical specialty boards working to define and recognize competent physicians in various medical specialties. While there is currently no ABMS certification specific to hair restoration, the ABHRS is the only certification recognized by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS -the largest hair restoration educational organization in the world).

Their Mission:

To act for the benefit of the public, to establish specialty standards and to examine surgeons' skill, knowledge and aesthetic judgment in the field of hair restoration surgery.

Their Goals:

To grant certification to candidates who meet the highest standards of the medical profession in the field of hair restoration surgery with the express provision that the Board will not act as a business, vocational or post-secondary school.

Their Objectives:

To establish requirements for qualification of applicants for certification by the Board in the field of hair restoration surgery.
